SHUTTLE TOWER
Location: Providence, RI
Year: 2017 Spring
This project develops from the dropping movement of a paper shuttle. By defining the movement and the shuttle shape, the dropping trace can generate spaces, time and behaviors.
CONTEXT
shuttle on site
The Shuttle Tower is located in an alley between two buildings. It has strong links to them. The alley is the bridge of two vertical streets, which entrusts the Shuttle Tower a strong public function of transportation. The bottom of the Tower has the most public program, which allows people to pass, enjoy coffee, and have access to higher space.
As the height of the floor increases, the privacy of the space gradually increases. The top floor allows the shuttle makers own their individual workshop and drop their “shuttles” from the dropping point. While the “shuttle” falls from the top, all the space is connected through this activity, people from the streets on both sides as well as those inside the building will see the fall of the “shuttle”.
The “shuttle” is a dynamic hyperlink to all the building programs.
